PROJECTS

Art Inside will teach the youth a variety of art disciplines for each project. Artists will gain a sense of pride and accomplishment and be able to share their works with different non-profits and organizations to learn about their mission and build a better connection with the community.

Project: Papel Picado & Paper Flowers
Materials: Tissue paper, string, glue, scissors, zip ties
Guest Artist and/or Sponsor: Darlene Tenes of CasaQ
Recipient: Amigos de Guadalupe
Information: Art will be used to decorate the plaza for Mariachis de Guadalupe concert to help raise monies going towards the restoration of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church & McDonnell Hall to provide much needed space to create a social service hub to expand current programs addressing Literacy, Gang Prevention, After School Program, New Parent Education, Mental Health, Immigration and Housing services.

Project: Floral Centerpieces

Recipient: PACT - People Acting in Community Together
Information: Florals will be used to decorate PACT's annual fundraiser luncheon. PACT‘s mission is to empower everyday people to create a more healthy and just society by winning extraordinary victories for the community- not by speaking for them, but by teaching people how to speak, act, engage and take action in the public arena for themselves through grass roots organizing.

Project: Recycled Art Pillows
Materials: Used sweaters, thread, scissors, buttons and beads
Guest Artist and/or Sponsor: Corky Guiterrez & Goodwill Industries
Recipient: Eastside Neighborhood Community Center
Information: Pillows will be given to senior citizens and youth will be taught about recycling. Eastside Neighborhood Center provides East San Jose with educational, recreational, wellness, nutritional, and social services. The majority of the participants are very low-income Latino and Filipino seniors, many facing economic, language, educational, and cultural barriers.

Project: Fleece Tie Blankets
Materials: fabric; scissors; brown kraft paper; a yardstick or measuring tape.

Recipient: Department of Family & Children's Services - Foster Care
Information: Blankets will be going to children going through a transitional stage. Youth will learn about the department which is responsible for prevention, intervention, advocacy, and public education related to the protection of children and their need for consistency in their care and nurturing.

Project: Sugar Skulls / Calavera de Azucar
Materials: Sugar, meringue powder, food colors, paint brushes, sugar molds

Recipient: Family members (UFW children?) 
Information: Youth will learn about Dia de Los Muertos celebration.

Project: 1000 Origami Cranes Mobile
Materials: Paper, string, dowel sticks, scissors
Guest Artist and/or Sponsor: Unknown
Recipient: Cancer Patients
Information: Youth will place a name of a cancer patient inside each crane. Thousand Origami Cranes is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a 
thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish.

Recipient: InnVision Shelter Network 
Information: Piñatas will be used for the monthly children's birthday parties held at the shelters. InnVision Shelter Network (IVSN) is the leading provider of shelter/housing and supportive services across Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Peninsula. IVSN operates 18 sites from San Jose to Daly City, providing emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing, along with an extensive array of supportive resources to help clients secure a place to call home.

Information: Youth will learn the basics of design, color theory and quiltmaking.

Project: Shadow Box for Veterans

Recipient: Disabled American Veterans
Information: DAV ensures that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
